Spent the last night of a cross country roadtrip at Hofbrauhaus, much to the recommendation of a friend we made hundreds of miles away. Safe to say the beer garden left a lasting impression. Props the barkeep for the chill and low key conversation. With pints the size of our heads, there is a good chance that I flubbed a few words or two, and Id do it all again in a heartbeat. Meh. The atmosphere was really nice we sat outside and had a nice view of the river, but the food was mediocre, expensive and inauthentic. We didnt try the beer but its probably alright and would have enhanced the experience. Although no prices on the drink menu is never a good sign This place is very popular especially among the younger crowd. But for me going here is like going to Disney world. Not because its awesome but because when you go you remember why you havent visited for 1. The main hall is EXTREMELY LOUD There is usually a live band playing polkas and people are seated at long rows of tables with people screaming to talk over each other and the music. The food is okay. When we visited we arrived in time for happy hour 5 7pm and saw on the website that to take advantage of happy hour pricing you had to go to the bar area. We asked the hostess if we could sit outside at a table and still participate and she said anywhere in the restaurant. But when we sat down at a table they said we were misinformed and would have to go to the bar if we wanted happy hour. Outside there is a bar, and we had to belly up to get a limited selection of happy hour beers and pay a separate tab. The appetizers were half price there. The service was slow too. There was only one server who was brand new to cover too many tables. Long story short, it will probably be another 1. I return and recall why I didnt go sooner. IMO if you want good German food there are much better choices in da burgh. Ps there is no free parking. Either you have to valet for 8 tip or find street parking or garage parking a block away and walk. I came here as a suggestion from a local friend. This place didnt disappoint. Service was great, a ton of seating means little to no wait. The environment was great with a feel of a true German beer hall with live music. I had the appetizer sampler and wurstplate, which both were amazing. I ordered a beer sample flight, which complimented the German food very well. My favorite was the kraut, absolutely the most authentic. Wow, wow, wow This place was SO good. Ive known Hofbrauhaus for their beer but not for the food. Also, Id never had German food before this. Although Im sure authentic German food is best eaten in the homeland, this was a great preface to it The atmosphere of the restaurant was great. At the Pittsburgh location, be sure to sit outside when the weather permits it. Theres nothing like a nice breeze and view of the river. If you sit inside, youll be sitting family style. When I was there, there was a piano playing on the stage where we witnessed the entire restaurant burst into singing Sweet Caroline. The schnitzel was moist and full of flavor. I dont really like cabbage, but the side was really delicious and flavorful Get the pretzel and bier cheese for an appetizer You wont regret it. Theres street parking throughout the shopping area, as well as a parking garage. However, if youre planning on indulging a bit, LyftUber is a must. Fan of good German bier Drop by If you cant make it to Oktoberfest than the Hofbrauhaus will make you feel as if you are there or bring back memories. Das schnitzel war sehr gut und die hefe weizen war noch besser. The music was non stop and everyone was having a great. The location is right on the river so you have a choice of sitting in either inside or outside. You can sit outside if you dont want to shout to have a conversation. The food came quickly, but you can still enjoy some serious pretzels and cheese before your meal arrives. They dont close until 2am so there is plenty of time to pace yourself and enjoy the best beer the world has ever known. So whether a 12 liter or a full stein have a good time with some good food with family and friends. I have been here multiple times. They have multiple seating options inside, balcony, and the beer garden. For your first visit, I would recommend sitting inside. This place offers a unique experience of dancing on your seats while the music plays. This is super fun, but do not step on the table, since that will lead to ousting. The beer garden is also fantastic, but its open only during the warm months. The balcony is just like any other outdoor seating, but you get a really nice view of the river. All their beers are amazing. The original, the hefe weizen, the dunkel, and the red beer. They also have a seasonal option. The red beer is probably my favorite. The last time I was there, I had 2 liters of that Im not a big fan of their food, but a lot of my friends swear by it. This place is definitely a must go. If your not German. Its impossible not to smile and I have a blast every time I visit. I must order the potato pancakes every time. I recommend ockoberfest. This place just makes me want to go to Germany I love beer and I gotta say the wide selection of beers is great. Its so nice to have so much to choose from. The food is also really good. I think all the items I have tried have been great. Festive Loved the app tray Pretzels were good, kraut and ham balls were excellentFried pickles. Even the craft beer was good Im not usually a fan. First dinner in Pittsburgh Also, my first time trying German food Party of 4, reservation at 7 pm. TBH, it was pretty empty when we came. I hear it gets hella packed later at night and on weekends Parking street or parking structure a block away. The area is still under renovation, so please pardon the dust. Menu extensive and the font is hard to read LOL. Separated into. appetizers, soups, salads, side dishes, burgers sandwiches, HB specialties, Wurstl, Schnitzel, and Haus favorite. Service 45 Ladies were super nice and gave us ample time to order. But, they did forget us halfway through the meal. Ambiance 45 indoor has a country band playing on stage, and a really nice bar with huge beer tanks. Outdoor seating that overlooks the river. They even have games on the bottom floor The area is a new shopping center, so you should walk around after your meal if it isnt too dark or chilly There is also a running trail behind the restaurant. Quality of food 35 maybe this isnt my type of food, but for what its worth, I would only categorize this as American traditional. Pricing 3. 55 pretty reasonable for the quantity you getAlcohol is also decently priced. We finally ordered. Kartoffelsuppe creamy potato soup YUM Isnt this just like clam chowder without the clams YUM Maybe because I was on the plane all day, but this settled my tummy. Scheweinebraten slow cooked pork roast Oh wow, big portion I actually really like the pork. Kind of reminds me of pork loin though Potato dumpling was not bad. Sauerbraten marinated beef Oh boy. The beef was also too dry. Dunkel bourbon salmon pan seared Atlantic salmon fillet Yum Fresh. Also came with some steamed vegetables. Wurstplate bierwurst, bratwurst, frankfurter Im not into sausages. Half rack of baby back ribs YUMMM. I havent had good ribs in forever I like. Better than other places Ive had in CAOverall, interesting dining experience. I wouldnt mind coming here for some big portion, comfort foodHowever, quality does sacrifice. Everything is hella rich in flavor. Ive never been to Germany, but i recognize the company logo from travel shows and even the amazing race. So of course I had to go Because I was in town to assist a family member go to the hospital, all I could do was go for takeout. The Pfeifer House European Fine Dining Tahoe City. Champagne.
